Generated Resource Learning

Generative resource learning (GRL) is the core of our developing philosophy at Mahatma Gandhi International School (MGIS). Created in 1999, GRL is based on the ideas of the famous educational theorists (Piaget, Vygotsky, Dewey, etc.) and techniques of Neuro-linguistic Programming, Gestalt therapy, Yoga, and mindfulness. Based on the active learning strategies, GRL enables students to implement real-world, experience-based projects that can be aimed to develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and establishing a valuable learning experience.

What is Generated Resource Learning?

Generative resource learning (GRL) is an experiential learning process in a spiral program in which students undertake projects in relation to real life situations. This pedagogy involves the use of numerous sensory experiences, cooperation with the rest of the group, and engaging the surrounding environment. Having produced concrete materials- in the form of short films, recipe booklets, exhibitions, or products- the students thus produce means of learning, which are in turn employed by other students or groups to deepen their learning. Those resources are at hand and can be used as the body itself or space, the material, or even the group dynamics which make the process of learning fun and transformative which is in line with our idea that the learning environment must be engaging and have an atmosphere that is related to reality.

Key Features of Generative resource learning (GRL) at MGIS (Ashta):

- Experiential Learning: Students based on projects that are related to real life take an active role in learning as opposed to merely being recipients of data.

- Holistic Development: Generative resource learning (GRL) applies the body, classroom setting, group processes, and physical materials in order to provide a rich and dynamic learning climate.

- Various Learning Styles: The pedagogy is also supporting different learning styles where all the needs of the students are addressed in varying ways of teaching.

- Teamwork and Community:Students become team players and get involved in the community as they cooperate in their projects as this strengthens their social and interpersonal development.

Inclusive Education in MGIS (Ashta)

At MGIS (Ashta) we look towards inclusive education where diversity of the student body is being utilized as a resource of learning. We invite students with diverse socio-economic status and the ones with diverse abilities because our education should be available to everyone. This all-inclusive strategy is not new and originated before India adopted the Right to Education Act and MGIS has been over the years on the forefront in ensuring that all children get equal opportunities. We merge children of different financial status and business elites and provide everybody with an equal opportunity to develop successfully.

Value and Awareness

Being one of the first educational innovators, MGIS has become a role model in innovative education. The world is very much focused on its teaching and schools in India, and Europe study its practices. Many awards have been given to the school including three years of the British Council International school Award, acknowledgement by the UK-India Education and Research Initiative Grant. As well, MGIS has received accolades from high-profile bodies like Pearson Teacher Award, Apple Distinguished Educator, and World Education Summit to mention a few.

The projects and initiatives that our students create through GRL have led our students to win multiple awards on local, national and even international levels, which helps to prove once again that the work we do finds its equivalence in the real world.
